Novar has been developing solar energy projects for over a decade and also operates them itself. The energy market has changed significantly in recent years. Whereas solar farms used to generate revenue whenever the sun shone, negative prices and the phasing out of subsidies now mean that careful management has become essential.
“We’re seeing more and more six-hour periods with negative electricity prices. During those times, you don’t receive any subsidies—and you actually have to pay to feed power into the grid,” Olaf explains. “That’s why we’ve made our solar farms fully controllable. With smart control systems, you can shut down operations during those specific hours or take advantage of markets like aFRR or imbalance. That’s how you optimize your revenue.”
Novar leaves that smart management to Repowered. “Their algorithms, market knowledge, and flexibility are exactly what we need in a rapidly changing market.”
We also manage Novar’s battery in Sluiskil. “Batteries require even greater flexibility, and that’s where Repowered’s strengths really shine.”
Consulting that goes beyond the numbers
In addition to providing operational management, Novar Repowered also serves as a consultant. “For example, we involve them in the design of new projects. Repowered calculates the optimal battery capacity for us or analyzes the impact of various market scenarios,” says Olaf.
Those analyses are more than just numbers. “The consultants at Repowered contribute substantive insights, share their market knowledge, and offer advice we can rely on. It helps us make better decisions, both during the development phase and when determining our sales strategy.”

What Olaf appreciates about our partnership is the combination of speed, transparency, and technical expertise. “Through the Repowered portal, I can see every day how much electricity we’ve generated and how much money we’ve earned from it. That’s much more powerful than just receiving an invoice after the fact. And if we have any questions, we get a quick response—whether it’s about management, analyses, or new market developments.”
A good example is the use of our congestion services (CSP). Novar was asked by a grid operator to help develop a congestion solution. “Repowered had it sorted out within a day. This generates additional revenue and strengthens our relationship with the grid operator.”
