Good news: Repowered is further expanding its Smart Energy Services. We are now officially certified as an aFRR Balancing Service Provider (BSP)! We were already operating as a BSP for FCR (Frequency Containment Reserve), and now customers can also participate in our aFRR pool.
This means that our solar parks can now actively contribute to a stable power grid, and our customers can get more value out of their solar parks.
What is aFRR?
aFRR (Automatic Frequency Restoration Reserve) is a system that TenneT uses to continuously maintain the balance of the power grid. If the supply and demand for electricity are not exactly equal, the grid frequency changes. aFRR automatically corrects this within seconds, ensuring that the frequency remains stable.
How does it work?
TenneT continuously monitors the grid frequency. If any deviations occur, they automatically send a signal. Our solar farms increase or decrease their output within seconds. This process is fully automated and reliable. The farms participating in this program receive compensation from TenneT.
Do the activated volumes on aFRR and the corresponding price in many cases determine the final imbalance prices applied by TenneT?
Thanks to our official certification, solar farms in the Repowered portfolio can now participate in this process. We have demonstrated to TenneT that our solar farms can deliver the required power quickly and reliably.
What does this mean for the solar parks in the Repowered portfolio?
By having the solar park participate in aFRR instead of regular curtailment,we reduce the price risk. Upon activation, you receive at least your bid price and are not affected by control state 2. The latter only occurs during imbalance curtailment and can lead to unfavorable prices. With aFRR, you therefore have greater certainty. Additionally, available capacity is rewarded with anavailability fee.
By combining the availability and activation payments, you can get much more value out of your solar park without any extra work on your part. Repowered takes care of everything for you.
