Green and affordable energy, for and by residents. An energy cooperative is the perfect solution for your village, neighborhood, or region to take control of the energy you use. And you want to keep it that way. Even though the world is changing rapidly. It’s quite a challenge for an energy cooperative to stay well-informed about all the changes in what is, after all, a complex market: suddenly you find yourself in a grid congestion area and sometimes have to shut down your system. Or how do you deal with fluctuating energy prices? And is energy storage relevant for your region or not?
Battery Storage and Cooperatives
That is whySybren Couwenberg of participated on December 11 in a knowledge-sharing session on energy storage organized by Groninger Energiekoepel, Ús Koöperaasje—a cooperative passionate about a sustainable future! —Drentse KEI (Drenthe Energy Initiatives Umbrella), the Drenthe Nature and Environment Federation, and Energie VanOns. Sybren: “We had the opportunity to share our knowledge and real-world examples with more than 100 cooperative members from the northern Netherlands. We discussed the impact of renewable energy on the various energy markets and which strategies are relevant for large-scale battery storage. All of this was done with energy cooperatives in mind. What do all these developments mean for them? We tried to provide as much clarity as possible based on our experiences and concrete examples.”
Engagement
“It was wonderful to see that there are so many committed people—especially volunteers—who are actively working on the Netherlands’ energy transition. That’s why we do it. And it’s great that our contribution is appreciated: ‘It was an informative meeting that many people responded to enthusiastically.’ – Groninger Energiekoepel”
