Repowered and Energie Van Ons are joining forces to tackle the challenges of the energy transition. One of these challenges is the occasional surplus of solar energy, which leads to negative prices. To address this issue, Repowered was asked to assist with curtailing the solar farms operated by energy cooperatives affiliated with Energie Van Ons. Curtailment involves temporarily shutting down a solar farm in exchange for compensation from the grid operator. Together with Energie van Ons, Repowered identified solar farms where this is feasible and set up the curtailment process to enable the management of these farms.
The partnership between Repowered and Energie VanOns has been in place for a year now and has proven to be successful. We are currently implementing curtailment at three solar farms, but there are plans to expand this to more. Together with Energie VanOns, we are ensuring that more cooperative solar farms can benefit from the advantages of curtailment.
Curtailment—temporary shutdown—increases the value of solar farms and contributes to better utilization of the electricity infrastructure, particularly by preventing grid congestion.
There is a growing trend toward decentralized, local energy generation initiatives, such as energy cooperatives. We offer them practical support and optimize local energy utilization.
In this way, we make smart energy use accessible to cooperatives and help them create added value.
The project with Energie VanOns helps prevent grid congestion and enables more efficient use of the energy infrastructure. By occasionally curtailing solar farms, it becomes possible to connect more farms to the power grid. And we create more capacity for renewable energy generation. Promoting smart energy use and optimizing solar farms are crucial steps toward a sustainable energy transition.
