NieuweStroom and Repowered: Working Together to Build a Flexible Energy System

Projects NieuweStroom and Repowered are teaming up

The power grid is under strain. To prevent grid congestion, grid operators are actively seeking flexibility: smart solutions that better align supply and demand. NieuweStroom and Repowered are joining forces to make exactly that possible.

Want to join us in shaping the future of energy?

Traffic Congestion Management

Together, we provide congestion management services for NieuweStroom’s customers, ensuring that renewable energy projects such as solar farms, wind turbines, and battery storage systems can be utilized to their full potential. NieuweStroom remains the trusted point of contact for customers, while Repowered, as a Congestion Service Provider (CSP), manages contracts with grid operators and handles the integration with the GOPACS congestion management platform.

The partnership is official

From launch to scaling up

The partnership began last summer with the first five capacity-limiting contracts (CBCs) for solar and wind power, in collaboration with Liander and Enexis. The agreement has now been officially signed, paving the way for further expansion through 2026.

“Through this partnership, we’re giving our customers the opportunity to actively help alleviate grid congestion, while at the same time enabling them to derive greater value from their renewable energy assets as we make more and more connections controllable.”

A logical choice

For NieuweStroom, the decision to choose Repowered was a deliberate one. “We were looking for a partner that is not only technically strong but also shares our vision: flexibility as the key to a future-proof energy system. When it comes to congestion services, accurate processing is absolutely essential, which is why service quality is also very important. Repowered brings exactly that combination of knowledge, experience, and entrepreneurship,” says Arnout Goeman, Business Development Manager at NieuweStroom.

Practical and customer-focused

NieuweStroom is also positive about the partnership itself. According to Arnout, we complement each other perfectly: “We have an open and practical way of working together that allows us to make rapid progress. We know the customer and their situation; Repowered takes care of the complex back-end operations. This makes it easy for businesses not only to generate energy but also to actively participate in balancing the grid or reducing local congestion.”

That customer-centric approach is a key driving force for both Repowered and NieuweStroom. “We share the same vision of how to support entrepreneurs: with a compelling proposition that is not only financially attractive but also practical and applicable to the customer’s day-to-day operations,” Arnout emphasizes.

“I look forward to working with Nieuwestroom. Together, we can truly take the burden off our customers as they transition to a sustainable energy system. Through smart energy trading and targeted management, we give companies back control over their energy flows and enable them to take full advantage of the opportunities the energy market offers.”

Looking Ahead

This partnership is just the beginning. NieuweStroom and Repowered are exploring how the portfolio can be utilized flexibly to unlock even more value.

“We see this as a partnership that evolves alongside the challenges facing the grid. Today we’re launching congestion services; tomorrow we want to work together to explore how we can unlock even more flexibility and develop new market models. Always with the same goal in mind: delivering greater value to businesses and strengthening the energy system.”

Capacity-limiting contract

What is a CBC?

As an independent Congestion Service Provider (CSP) , Repowered handles the agreements with the grid operator on your behalf and makes smart use of your flexible capacity.

With a capacity-limiting contract (CBC) , it is agreed how much transmission capacity you are allowed to use at your connection point. The basic principle is that you always retain your existing capacity, but the grid operator may in some cases temporarily impose a restriction if the grid becomes congested. The arrangements can be flexible, for example on an on-demand basis or at fixed times. This creates space on the grid and adds value to your installation by actively participating in congestion management.
