Is your business hampered by an overloaded power grid? Don’t panic: with congestion management, there are often more options than you think. By operating flexibly, you can regain control of your energy management. Repowered guides you with advice and practical solutions.
The challenge
The energy transition is causing the power grid to become increasingly congested. New connections are being denied, solar and wind installations are sometimes being shut down, and expansion plans are being put on hold. Yet there is still capacity: available capacity is calculated and allocated during peak times, while the grid is often less busy. Think of the grid as a highway: outside of rush hour, there is still plenty of room.
Congestion management allocates scarce capacity more efficiently. During peak periods, the grid operator asks businesses to temporarily adjust their consumption or feed-in to accommodate the situation. This reduces the load on the grid during peak times, allowing more businesses to be connected.
Flexible capacity
Our solutions are designed for organizations with a large-scale business connection featuring flexible capacity, such as:
In short: anyone who faces network congestion but still wants to move forward.
Congestion service provider
In principle, you can handle congestion management on your own, but from a technical and contractual standpoint, coordinating this with the grid operator can quickly become a complex and time-consuming process. That’s why it’s helpful to outsource this to a professional provider. The Congestion Service Provider (CSP) was created specifically for this purpose. This role requires accreditation from the national grid operator TenneT.
As an independent CSP, Repowered handles the agreements with the grid operator on your behalf and makes smart use of your flexible capacity. We already have standard agreements in place with the four major grid operators in the Netherlands regarding the terms of congestion management contracts. This means you no longer have to negotiate these terms yourself. The basic principle is simple: as a customer, you stand to gain from this. It’s a true win-win.
The grid operator offers several types of contracts. Repowered can guide you through the entire process of, for example, a capacity-limiting contract (CBC) or a capacity-management contract (CSC). We handle the contract, technical management, and day-to-day operations entirely on your behalf. Of course, we’re also happy to work with you to explore other types of congestion management contracts.
Traffic Congestion Management
1. Insight
We create a consumption profile for your organization. This allows you to see when and how much electricity you consume or feed back into the grid, and where there is room for flexible use of your capacity.
Want a quick assessment?
With the quick scan, you can see in five minutes whether congestion management makes sense for your organization. Fill out the short questionnaire by clicking the button below (5 minutes).
2. Contract-
We enter into a contract with the grid operator on your behalf. This contract specifies the amount of power that can be temporarily curtailed and the compensation for doing so. Participation is available for contracted feed-in capacity of 100 kW or more.
3. Control
Our smart systems automatically control your installations as agreed in the congestion contract. You receive the payments, with no extra work on your part.
This makes for more efficient use of the grid: peaks are smoothed out, and valleys are filled in. You benefit and help build a future-proof energy system.
“With Repowered, you’re choosing a partner that doesn’t view grid congestion as a barrier, but as an opportunity. We help you manage your energy in a smarter, more flexible, and future-proof way.”
Repowered is proud to announce that we have signed a capacity-limiting contract (CBC) for the Vloeivelden Hollandia solar park in Nieuw-Buinen (Drenthe). With a capacity of 115 MWp, this is the second-largest solar park in the Netherlands!
