Insight into and control over your energy. That’s what Repowered’s smart energy providers are all about. But who are the people behind the company? Get to know them in the series “The Energy Managers.” This time, we’re talking to Kjell Boeije, Frontend Developer at Repowered.
“As a Frontend Developer, I work on the software behind our web applications. Most of my time is spent onMy Repowered: the platform where customers can see how Repowered manages their solar farms, batteries, and other energy systems. I also work on other projects, such as the Battery Simulation tool.”
More than just “making buttons”
“I often joke that my job is ‘making buttons,’ but of course there’s much more to it than that. I’m constantly thinking about user experience: Is a page structured logically? Is the right information in the right place? Does everything load quickly? My goal is for customers to see at a glance what’s relevant to them, without having to search endlessly or navigate through hidden menus. And if possible, it should look sleek, too.”
Balance between clarity and transparency
“The services we provide and the markets in which we operate are quite complex. Different clients have different interests and information needs. The challenge is to translate all of that into a single interface in a way that makes sense and is easy to understand.”
“At Repowered, we’re all about transparency, but presenting too much information at once can actually be counterproductive. In the office, we’re alldata geeks: the more, the better—but not every customer wants to see every detail. That’s why we’re always looking for the right balance: enough depth for those who want it, and a clear overview for those who just want a quick understanding.”
Working together to build better solutions
“What really appeals to me about working at Repowered is the team. Even though we’re growing, communication lines are still short. As a front-end developer, I don’t just work on the front end—I also contribute to the back end: the software that powers our services and algorithms.”
“Colleagues from other teams actively contribute ideas for new features. They use My Repowered themselves and all view it from their own perspective. That improves the product and helps us learn a lot from each other. It’s great that we don’t work in silos. By occasionally broadening our horizons, we learn a lot and develop a greater appreciation for each other’s work.”
Strength lies in collaboration
“These short lines of communication apply not only within IT, but also with sales, product development, and other teams. We can quickly turn feedback from the market or from customers into improvements or new features. We also respond quickly to unexpected situations, such as system outages. That shared sense of responsibility is what makes Repowered strong.”
Working on something that's relevant today
“I also feel connected to Repowered’s mission. I didn’t feel that as strongly in my previous job. It feels good to use software to help create a more stable power grid and build solutions for the challenges we’re facing today.”
A small tribute to the details
“One funny thing about my job is how visually oriented people are. A subtle drop shadow, a smooth transition, or an interesting loading icon can elicit enthusiastic reactions. Sometimes I almost feel guilty toward colleagues who work mainly ‘behind the scenes.’ They build incredibly complex and clever features that aren’t immediately visible to colleagues and customers, but deserve just as much enthusiasm.”
